I was licensed as a novice in 1980 as KA8LHJ and started with an Argonaut 509. That radio had two watts but sometimes I did not use both of them. I got into traffic handling networks so I built  power amplifier for 80 meters giving me about 50 watts so I could work as the NCS. Within a few months I upgraded to Advanced Class and removed half of the parts from the amp! A little less than a year after my first ticket I upgraded to Extra and got my present call sign. I thought everybody did that. I probably would have been satisfied as a permanent general. I renewed my license a few days ago in March two or three days before it expired.

It did not take me very long to find the Michigan QRP Club and I have been participating ever since. More recently I have been promoting the club at the Cadillac hamfest the first Saturdays in May. I will doing it again this May. I hope to see some of you there.
